General Condition Of Entry

The competition, which this year includes the new category Personal Series, is open to amateur and professional photographers regardless of citizenship. The subject may be freshwater or marine. The categories are:
  • a) Biological photo
    Images that underscore a particular characteristic of an aquatic organism; any objective (e.g. wide-angle, fish-eye) accepted. Examples would be images related to the reproduction, feeding or mimetic qualities of organisms.
  • b) Underwater environment
    Images of the aquatic world, marine or freshwater; any objective (e.g. wide-angle, fish-eye) accepted.
  • c) Black and white
    Same criteria as in section b). Winners will be asked to produce the original negatives.
  • d) Personal series
    A group of four images that best represent the photographer's creativity and personal  interpretation of the aquatic world and of underwater photography.

Photos that have already won other national or international contests will be penalised in the final round of judging. The jury reserves the right to require photographer's to produce the original negatives for prize-winning photos. Winners who cannot provide original negatives for prize-winning photos may be disqualified. Participants may enter multiple categories, sending up to four printed photos per category in a 30x40 cm format. Each print must have the title and category written on the back, as well as the photographer's full name and a red mark indicating the bottom side of the exposure. All photos must have been taken while the photographer was completely immersed in water. Photos in which organisms are touched by the photographer or are photographed in an  unnatural environment or are exhibiting stress behaviour will not be accepted. In addition, the following types of photos are not allowed: photomontages, photos taken in  aquariums or swimming pools, photos shot from submerged rooms, digitally-enhanced  photos.

Photos must be received by February 17, 2001. They must be packed in a manner that  allows for their return via post. Entries must include a 50,000 ITL (25 Euro) entry fee.

Prizes should be collected personally by the winners, who will be informed by telephone. The winning photos remain the property of the organisation, which has the right to  reproducing, show, and/or publish the exposed photos for non-commercial use with the  obligation to cite the photographer's name. The organisation will treat entries with due care, but is not responsible for their damage or loss. The jury's decisions may not be appealed. The jury has the right to withhold the awarding  of prizes in any and all categories in the case that the received photos, in the jury's opinion, have no merit. The jury may also at its discretion award a special mention.  By entering the competition, photographers consent, according to the norms of law N 675/96, to the organisation's utilisation (by means electronic or otherwise) of their personal data as needed for the development and execution of the competition.

Selected photos will be exhibited in the exposition EUDI SHOW, held in Bologna, Italy 9 - 12 March, 2001. The jury-prize winners will be announced at EUDI on 12 March following the round-table.
